都說美國是個自由的國家，可也有束手束腳的地方。推薦信的使用之廣，就讓我們這些“外來戶”很不適應。

用外語將自己花樣翻新地吹捧三次

在美國，申請學校、找工作、甚至租房子，都要求提供推薦信。推薦信一般是熟悉你的人，從第三者的角度對你加以評判，因此，和你自己的陳述相比，往往更客觀。美國是個極重視個人信用的國度，可以說，推薦人是在以自己的信用爲被推薦人“擔保”，所說的話，分量自然不輕。一封有力的推薦信能夠起到事半功倍的作用，因一封推薦信而得到工作、被學校錄取、拿到獎學金的例子比比皆是。

出國留學的人都找人寫過推薦信，美國的每所大學都要這個東西，一封兩封還打發不了，通常要求提供３封以上。推薦信是“準留學生”準備文件時最頭疼的一項。國內的專家、教授即使答應推薦你，也大多隻是在信上籤個而已，信件的內容要你自己準備。以第三者的口氣，用外語將自己變着法兒地吹捧３次，絕對不是“小菜一碟”。

等到申請綠卡時，對推薦信的要求就更絕了，需要提供６封以上不說，其中還必須至少包括一封“獨立推薦信”，讓沒和你一起工作過，對你並不熟悉的專家學者來寫，證明你如何傑出、美國如何離不開你。這個甚沒道理的規定，不知使多少“準移民”望而卻步。

在美國讀書，平時一定要和導師搞好關係，因爲他不僅管着你的現在，還在很大程度上影響着你的未來，繼續深造、就業、申請綠卡……只要需要推薦信，你就難免有求於他。

有個朋友讀博士讀到一半時，老婆懷孕了，母親在國內生病住院，經濟壓力一下增加了許多。這位朋友私下跑到一個公司去應聘，職位、待遇什麼的都談好了，萬事俱備，就差他導師的一封推薦信。朋友和導師正式談起這件事時，導師正需要人手幹活，聽說他要走，很不高興，在他的百般央求之下寫了推薦信，可公司收到這封信後就變了卦，表示不再需要他了。

朋友後來和導師鬧得不可開交，堅決要求拿個碩士學位就走人。後來鬧到系裏去，碩士學位最終拿到了，可在找工作時卻因爲沒有推薦信而頗費周折，最後總算在一個偏遠的地方找到了一份起薪很低的工作。

許多機構要求寫推薦信的人直接將推薦信寄去，裏面是褒是貶，被推薦的人並不知道。多年前發生了震驚中美的盧剛校園殺人案，盧剛殺導師的原因之一，據說就是他去應聘一份工作未能成功，因此懷疑導師在推薦信裏寫了不利於他的話。案發後，那個用人單位公開了那封推薦信，裏面其實充滿了對盧剛的溢美之詞。

推薦信這個規定，並不僅僅針對外國人，而是美國的“普遍規定”。美國高中生申請讀大學，需要提供中學老師的推薦信。每到高中學生申請大學時，老師們就忙得不亦樂乎，要給上百個學生寫推薦信。據說，老師們大多備有固定的“格式信”，只是針對不同的學生，修改其中的一些修飾語。想想也是，如果每封信都單獨寫，大概得天天坐在那兒，別的什麼都別幹才行。

真真假假的推薦信

有一天，我看到老公在電腦上敲敲打打，很專心的樣子，就隨口問了一句：寫什麼呢？他回答：寫推薦信。

啥？又要換工作？搬家？

老公“嘿嘿”一聲：想到哪兒去了，是爲實驗室裏一個技術員寫推薦信，他要去讀博士。我忍不住笑到：“哇！多年的媳婦熬成婆了，也輪到咱給別人寫推薦信了。”

仔細想想，我也口頭推薦過別人。

開乾洗店那陣子，我有個十分要好的朋友剛剛讀完會計本科，四處找工作，因爲沒有工作經驗，一時難以找到合適的。後來她問我，可否在履歷表上寫上在我的店裏做過會計。這位朋友非常能幹，人又好，在國內已有碩士學位，爲了找工作才又在國外讀了本科。我常說，哪個公司僱了她就偷着樂吧，所以願意幫她的忙，還把店裏的賬目給她過目，讓她心中有數。

後來的一天，一位先生從銀行打來電話，仔細詢問我那位朋友的工作能力和人品。他問了十幾個問題，我自然都給予了極高評價。回答問題的時候我很緊張，比自己去應聘還要緊張，生怕說得不合適，誤了朋友的前程。打完電話，我的手心裏都是汗。還好，朋友被那個銀行聘用，現在已是美國某個銀行的財務總監了。

我的另一位朋友在公司裏做部門主管，手下有個人誇誇其談，好大喜功，又沒有合作精神，弄得部門裏人人不滿，讓朋友很是頭疼。一天，這位仁兄突然來找我的朋友，說要另謀高就，請上司給寫封推薦信。

我聽了這事，覺得這封推薦信不大好寫。誰知朋友回答：“好寫，太好寫了！我把他吹得天花亂墜，還怕那家公司不要他？燙手的山芋，終於可以扔出去了。”

如此看來，推薦信真是不能全信！

美國留學推薦書是非常重要的，推薦信的份量直接關係到能否出國留學，能否獲得獎學金等，作爲對外聯繫的材料，是其中一份較爲重要的文件。推薦信的目的是通過第三方向對方介紹申請人的學習和專業方向等情況。在出國申請是否成功的諸多要素中，有力的推薦信是錄取的重要條件之一，其份量僅次於於本科成績單和標準化考試(gre、gmat、toefl)成績。大多數美國學校都要求申請人提供二至三封推薦信。那麼，美國留學推薦信到底要怎麼寫?如下：

推薦信的格式與一般書信基本相同，有信頭、發信日期、收信人姓名、稱呼、正文、信尾謙稱、簽名、推薦人姓名、職稱及工作單位等部分。出國留學英文推薦信模板。

內容丨美國留學推薦信怎麼寫

1、被推薦人的基本情況介紹。側重於個人的畢業時間、學校、所獲學位以及個人的專業經歷。

2、推薦人對被推薦人的基本評價。側重於被推薦人的專業基礎、個性、特點、工作態度和在學術上的前途估計。若是推薦研究生，推薦人還需進一步說明其深造學習的基礎和當前所具備的研究能力。顯然，恰如其分地評價被推薦人的基礎、能力和前途，比言過其實的讚譽更令人情服，更具有實際意義。

3、推薦人可以着重介紹被推薦人曾經獲得的獎勵，發表過的論文，參加過的重要學術會議，以及曾在學生組織或學術團體中的任職等來支持自己的評價。

4、推薦人還必須清楚地表明被推薦人留學的身份是研究生還是訪問學者，專業領域和研究方向是什麼。

如果大學提供了現成的推薦表格，則必須按這類表格認真逐項填寫。推薦表格中一般有學生綜合評估的一項，即要求推薦人說明該生在所教的學生中應列爲前5%，10%，或25%等。這種評估是指教授的個人評價，可以稍高一點。另外，推薦表格上常有許多難以填寫的項目，遇到這種情形可填“i don't know”，亦不致對該生的評價有何嚴重影響。

推薦信尾必須有推薦人的親筆簽名，最好直接由推薦人寄給學校招生辦官員或申請就讀學校的系主任。如果由被推薦人寄送，可將推薦信裝入信封內封好後由推薦人在信封口處親筆簽名以示保密。信封正面註明“a letter of recommendation”，表明這是一封推薦信。

申請失敗的推薦信，一般存在以下三個問題：

1、絕大多數推薦信實際上是學生自己撰寫的，只要讓推薦人大筆一揮，簽上名即可。

2、反正所有人的推薦信裏都會誇誇其談，說被推薦人是如何如何優秀，我只要一樣照做就好了。

3、推薦信只是個形式，外國大學要不要錄取我，還是要看我的考試分數說了算。

事實上，推薦信的好壞很可能直接決定着您申請成功與否的關鍵，是您申請材料裏的硬傷，好的推薦信是錄取的重要條件之一。

i take great pleasure in recommending wang yong, one of my favorite students, for admission into your distinguished graduate program.

mr. wang was admitted in 1986 at 14 years of age into the special class for the gifted youths, my university's unique program that caters to the intellectual needs of unusually talented chinese youngsters. it was a rare privilege he earned with his nearly impeccable academic performance through the years of his elementary and secondary school.

he impressed me almost as he entered into my university, a major cradle of china's scientific and technological talents. at the time, members of the gifted class all had to spend half a month studying by themselves the principles of calculus and then take an exam so that we could evaluate their self-study capability. mr. wang scored the highest grade in that exam. he also exhibited a keenly whetted mind during class discussions. to my regret at the time, his english was not as good as his mathematics or physics. but i noticed he made a point of working especially hard in improving his english during his five undergraduate years with us. by now, he seems to be at least as proficient in english as most of his former classmates in the gifted class.

in my experience with mr. wang, i was impressed with not only his extraordinary intelligence but also his ambitions and persistence. i am sure that mr. wang will be an outstanding student in any doctoral program that he may care to enroll in. so i would like to support him firmly in his quest recommendation into account when considering his application. i would greatly appreciate it you decide to accept him as he wishes.
