自從20xx年英語六級進行改革之後，口語考試成了六級考試的一個部分，從官網的消息瞭解到，全國大學英語四六級考試的口語考試（CET—SET）將分設四級和六級兩個級別，即“全國大學英語四級口語考試（CET—SET4）”和“全國大學英語六級口語考試（CET—SET6）”。
目前參加四六級口語考試的考生爲CET4成績爲500分及以上或CET6成績爲425分及以上的學生。達到分數的兩類考生都參加同樣的口語考試，成績分爲ABCD四等。口語考試採用機考形式，兩個考生爲一組參加。
20xx年起，符合條件的考生將分別參加四級口語和六級口語的考試。四六級考試官網發佈了新口語考試各級別試題構成和樣題。
四級口語分爲四部分，首先考生需要用20秒進行自我介紹，屬於熱身內容。然後通過45秒的準備，朗讀一篇短文並用1分鐘答題。考生需要回答2個與朗讀的短文相關的'問題。此外，考生還需要進行1分鐘的個人陳述發言。最後則是小組互動內容，由兩位考生經過準備，根據設定的情景和任務進行交談。
六級口語考試則分爲3大部分。考生需要用3分鐘時間自我介紹，並回答問題。然後考生經過1分鐘準備，根據所給提示作時長爲1。5分鐘的個人發言，兩位考生還就指定的話題進行4。5分鐘的討論。最後由考官進一步提問，回答問題。
