The most important of these things is an activity which at most gradually builds up something that you are glad to see coming into existence. Women who take an instinctive pleasure in their children can get this kind of satisfaction out of bringing up a family. Artists and authors and men of science get happiness in this way if their own work seems good to them. But there are many humbler forms of the same kind of pleasure. Many men who spend their working life in the city devote their weekends to voluntary and unremunerated toil in their gardens, and when the spring comes, they experience all the joys of having created beauty. The whole subject of happiness has, in my opinion, been treated too solemnly.

It had been thought that man cannot be happy without a theory of life or a religion. Perhaps those who have been rendered unhappy by a bad theory may need a better theory to help them to recover, just as you may need a tonic when you have been ill. But when things are normal a man should be healthy without a tonic and happy without a theory. It is the simple things that really matter. If a man delights in his wife and children, has success in work, and finds pleasure in the alternation of day and night, spring and autumn, he will be happy whatever his philosophy may be. If, on the other hand, he finds his wife fateful, his children’s noise unendurable, and the office a nightmare; if in the daytime he longs for night, and at night sighs for the light of day, then what he needs is not a new philosophy but a new regimen--a different diet, or more exercise, or what not. Man is an animal, and his happiness depends on his physiology more than he likes to think. This is a humble conclusion, but I cannot make myself disbelieve it. Unhappy businessmen, I am convinced, would increase their happiness more by walking six miles every day than by any conceivable change of philosophy.

The hero’s mother in the movie Forrest Gump says, “Life is a box of chocolates”. I would say that life, with friendship, true friendship particularly, is sweet as honey. It is moonlight cast on the tranquility of a lake on a mid-fall night, enchanting to the soul. It is morning dew on rose petals, pleasant and pleasing to the sense of sight. It is cosy fire on a bitterly cold winter night, warming the heart.

But as Helen Foster Snow remarks, “Friendship is no common weed that grows along the way. It’s highly cultivated and watered day by day.” Like an infant, it needs constant care; like a young tree, it can not be left to the tender mercies of severe weather. True friendship consists more in “a friend in need” to give to than “a friend in need” to take from. A true friend is a person who can be turned to, who is ready to lend a listening ear, who is willing to share feelings.

Friendship should be mutual, otherwise it will be subject to withering like plant in drought. Like genuine love, true friendship has to be a two way experience. Be it the former or the latter, if one expects to be solely on the receiving end, then s/he will be too optimistic about it: it is hoping against hope that it will last. Love or friendship of this kind is dangerous, as it is contaminated by the dark matter in human nature – selfishness.

Not infrequently does friendship need to be cared and tended, fostered and nourished, so that it will “stand at every crossroad, so good and strong and true”.

I dream that one day the adults could throw their prejudice of comic and cartoon away. They could keep a lovely heart that can share sorrow and happiness with us while watching cartoon or doing personal things. That’s the real communication of heart to heart.

it that something of great terror thrusts people into the real, reality of life? Makes them realize what the real sources of our biggest problems? We can no longer ignore that PEOPLE are the real reason this world is where it is now. But one question I must ask is, why does it have to take such sacrifices to change the world. Why is it that whenever a proposition is called to help the world, some disagree, and it is not negotiated to order?

Thinking about the recent and some past situations, I can draw a conclusion. It takes an overwhelming amount of attention to change something so great as our way of life. I look back toward the begging of our last century, to the time where countries were so alienated, to each other, and they did it to them selves. By almost the middle of the century, two great wars were fought, and the better side, the side representing goodness or good will, won. It took the attention, the deaths of over six million over the period of 15 years to realize; one country cannot and will not change the world. But a band of countries uniting to make WORLD PEACE can get the better of the attention, the goodness of it. Now, another century, and millennium is beginning and we see the same thing trying to happen the world trying to be changed by negative attention.

I wonder to myself, how long is it going to be before this world unites to change the world for the good. And fight the terror as one. I also wonder, the opposite, how long or how many attempts will it take before this world is ruined because of hatred, terror, and everything representing badness. One thing I do understand and believe though. We must have hope. We must have hope that the day will come that we will no long be scared; and we will no longer fear. One day long after this, from the people that had hope, the people that fought for the goodness of the world, along with fighting for their God given right to live, will prosper from all this fighting. And the fighting will pay off, long after we all are forgotten, when the world is given to those you can’t even tell you what terror is, because they had never experienced it. And we all must keep fighting, and we all must have hope until that day that day arrives.

even before the multimedia come (2) up, many different learning systems appeared, using the components and techniques we now associate with the term “multimedia”.

multimedia components, such as graphics (動畫) , animations , sound and video, make the learning process easier through visualization.

animations can present many complex subjects dynamically, but human teachers can not do this on blackboards.

multimedia makes our study more lively and interesting.

for example, a cd-rom disk named “encarta encyclopedia” contains 650 mb information including images, graphics, music clips, video clips, animations , texts, hotwords, and database search functions.

fields involved includes physical sciences, performance arts, social sciences, politics, military, education and so on.
